Over 40 youngsters got a taste of hockey and some fun in the sun at Louth Hockey Club's Junior World Cup day.
The event, organised to coincide
with the Women's Hockey World Cup being played in London, featured lots of fun games on and off the London Road astro turf pitch.
It gave the youngsters, aged 7-11 years, an introduction to hockey but also lots of other games too. The water-based games were especially popular in the scorching heat.
A group of Louth Hockey Club volunteers, senior and junior members, ensured the children had a fantastic time and learnt a little bit of hockey too.
Co-organiser Veronica Chamberlin said: "It was a brilliant day, we had over 40 children come along and I think they all enjoyed the day - we may even see some of them come along to our club training sessions in the future.
"We pride ourselves on our young players and promoting grassroots hockey, and I think today showed how popular a sport it is in Louth."
Mrs Chamberlin praised the young volunteers who helped, adding: "They were brilliant and a great advertisement for the club."
At the end of the day the youngsters, who were organised into teams represented in the hockey world cup, played a mini-tournament on the astro turf.
The club is currently raising funds towards the replacement of the London Road astro turf pitch. For more information about this project visit www.louthhockeyclub.co.uk or find the club on social media.
